Furniture industry speaks out against big biomass

8 minute report on BBC Radio 4 'You and Yours' 12 April

Theme is the effect of subsidies (ROCs) for wood electricity on prices of raw material used in furniture.

Anne McGuire MP for Stirling speaks against big biomass, mentioning Forth Energy, Tilbury and Port Talbot as consuming many times UK production of wood.

Greg Barker at DECC claims our woodlands are under-managed. Wants to significantly increase the level of UK 'natural' wood both for biomass and for other purposes. His aspiration then shot down by reference to Forestry Commission estimate of only another 2 million tonnes per year.
