Please tell your Parliamentary Candidates: Clean Energy Subsidies must not go to Smokestacks and Forest Destruction

With the General Elections coming up in May, this is the time to inform Parliamentary Candidates about the harm that's being done by the UK's misguided renewable energy subsidy rules.  Please call on your Candidates to call for an energy policy that supports only genuinely low-carbon and sustainable renewables such as sustainably sited wind and solar power and that prioritises energy conservation and efficiency. Clean energy subsidies must no longer go towards biomass power stations which, between them, burn millions of tonnes of wood at a devastating cost to forests, to the climate and to the health of nearby communities.  Nor should they be spent on waste incineration.  And certainly, they shouldn't go to Drax or any other company profiting from keeping old coal power stations open by burning vast amounts of wood in them.

We need your help to get this message across to Candidates.
What you can do?

We have put together a sample letter which you can copy and send to each of your Candidates: www.biofuelwatch.org.uk/2015/letter-to-parliamentary-candidates .  You can find out who your Candidates are and how to contact them by going to https://yournextmp.com/ .

We have also put together a briefing paper if you or your Candidate would like further information about the impacts of large-scale biomass electricity and about the policy changes that are needed: http://www.biofuelwatch.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/election-briefing-2015.pdf
Organising or Attending Hustings?  Here are four questions on biomass subsidies you may wish to choose from:

We would love to know what feedback you get from Candidates - so please email us at biofuelwatch@ymail.com .  Many thanks!

Biofuels are a wide range of fuels which are in some way derived from biomass.

Your idea?
