Drax power station in Yorkshire is the biggest coal-burner in the UK, and is now the world's biggest biomass power station. On top of this, it wants almost £1 billion in government funding to build the UK's first new coal plant since the 1970s. Please sign our petition against new coal in the UK, and join us 11am-1pm on 22nd April at Drax Plc's AGM in London to say no to old coal and destructive biomass.
Biofuelwatch, US-based Dogwood Alliance and UK-based Coal Action Network have started a petition to stop the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change awarding almost £1 billion of public funds to a new coal-fired power station. Drax is hoping that its new White Rose Project will be the first coal plant to be built in the UK since the 1970's. It will increase the UK's reliance on destructive coal and biomass with no guarantee of capturing any carbon. Please join us in telling the UK Government not to fund the White Rose Project.
Drax has finally announced that its AGM will take place on Wednesday 22nd April. We're planning a lively protest to expose and oppose Drax's coal and biomass burning, and we'd love to see you there. For more information on #axedrax and to get involved please click on the button above. We'll also be visiting DECC's London offices after the protest to tell them to end Drax's huge subsidies. Can't make it on the 22nd? You can still get involved online, tell your friends about our campaign to close Drax, and look out for future actions.
